30. Learn the following dialogue.
A. I say, Jane, what do you say to going to the the-
atre tonight?
B. Oh, I’d love it! I don’t feel like staying at home,
and the weather is not good for walking.
A. That’s right. What’s on at the theatres tonight?
B. Let’s have a look at the newspaper. Oh, they are giving «The Nutcracker» at the Opera and Ballet House! I’d love to see it. Their ballet company is brilliant beyond all doubts, and Tchaikovsky’s music is just charming.
A. But I am afraid it will be impossible to get tickets on the day of the performance for something as popular as that.
B. Yes, I suppose you are right… Most probably, the
house is sold out.
A. Shall we go and try? There may be somebody at the theatre door with an extra ticket to sell. That’s our only hope.
B. Well, let’s go and try our luck.

He didn’t like having to stay late to check figures for some juniormanager. He didn’t like it at all.Chester hated it when he made mistakes. It didn’t look good. But it didn’t happenoften.He decided he would walk home instead of taking the train. It was late in theevening but he felt he needed the walk to clear his thoughts after a busy day.Anyway, it would be a little punishment for being so stupid earlier on. He decidedthat he would eat at the shopping centre near his home. He liked the Chinese foodthere.As he walked towards his favourite Chinese restaurant, he saw that the lightswere still on in an old antique shop. He had often thought of looking into this shopbecause he liked shops that sold old things. He stopped and looked. There wereboxes full of old books piled outside the shop. On the shop window was a notice. Itread: Sorry, shop closed today. Open again tomorrow.He bent down to look at the books. He saw all the usual old books: school books,cookery books and other books with dirty, yellowing pages that were of no value tohim. There was one small, old book, however, that he noticed at once. It lookedmuch older than the rest of the books. He picked it up.’Take it!’ said a voice behind him.
